Common Ground with Chef Masa Hamaya
We are excited to launch Common Ground, a new monthly dinner series that brings acclaimed guest chefs to Hermitage Farm for collaborative evenings inspired by exceptional ingredients, shared values, and the connection between farm and table. Each dinner will showcase a unique culinary perspective while celebrating the seasonal bounty of the farm through a thoughtfully curated dining experience.
Our inaugural dinner welcomes Chef Masa Hamaya, Executive Chef of Charleston’s recently opened Shokudô and Culinary Director of O-Ku restaurants. Known for its Japanese izakaya-style cuisine, Shokudô has quickly gained attention for its commitment to quality ingredients, thoughtful sourcing, and warm hospitality. Much like Barn8 Executive Chef Ryan Singletary, Chef Masa believes that great food begins with exceptional products and strong relationships with growers, farmers, and purveyors.
For this special one-night-only collaboration, Chef Masa will travel from Charleston with seafood sourced from one of his most trusted fish vendors, ensuring guests experience the same level of quality and care that defines his restaurants. Together, Chefs Masa and Ryan will present a five-course dinner that blends Chef Masa’s Japanese culinary influences with Barn8’s farm-driven approach, creating a menu that highlights the best of the season through both local produce and pristine seafood.
Each course will be complemented by expertly selected wine pairings, thoughtfully chosen to enhance the flavors and story behind the menu. Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy a guided culinary experience that celebrates craftsmanship, collaboration, and a shared dedication to ingredient-driven cooking.
