It's just our nature to be constantly concerned about the horses at Hermitage Farm. We wouldn't be happy otherwise. Hermitage is 700 acres of lush pasture with century-old trees and large, safe barns. And most employees have been with the farm for many years.
For over 60 years Hermitage has been called home by well over 200 stakes winners. Topping the list are classic winners Dark Star (Kentucky Derby) and LOMOND (English 2,000 Guineas). Our two-year-old stars include Irish Champion two-year-old and leading sire WOODMAN, Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner IS IT TRUE and 2001 G1 Hollywood Futurity winner SIPHONIC. In 1985
Hermitage Farm sold at the Keeneland July Sales SEATTLE DANCER.
The then unnamed son of NIJINSKY II and MY CHARMER,
a half-brother to SEATTLE SLEW and LOMOND, was sold for a
world-record yearling price of $13,100,000 to the partnership of Vincent
O'Brien, John Magnier and Robert Sangster. He went on to become a Grade II stakes-winner, Grade 1
stakes-placed, and a successful sire. In 1995
Hermitage was sold by
the family of Warner L. Jones to current owner Carl F. Pollard.
Both Jones and Pollard (golfing partners and good friends) have
served or are serving as Chairman of the Board of Churchill Downs. We're proud of the long term relationships we've had with our boarders and their horses who we consider family. On their behalf we've foaled and raised MARQUETRY (G1, $2-million earner and sire of 2 Breeders' Cup winners), IT'S ACEDEMIC (multiple Graded Stakes winner of over $900,000), the mother-daughter combination of MRS. REVERE ($400,000 and 7 stakes wins) and MARIA BALASTIERE (Stakes winner of $100,000) leading sprinter and sire LORD CARSON (G2, $498,742), and TAP TO MUSIC, a G1 winner of $1,052,526 who captured the prestigious Delaware Handicap as well as her half-brother by MR. PROSPECTOR who sold in the 2001 Keeneland July Sales for $3,600,000. If you'd like to board your mares and young stock at Hermitage, please give us a call.
